Cables & Cameras presents : REGIONAL VOICES

Another chance to experience a special Cables & Cameras showcase of short films + a discussion after the films hosted by Junior Sunder + a opportunity to socialise in the bar and garden.

A cinematic movement is currently unfolding, spearheaded by a new generation of talented black and brown filmmakers and creatives. These visionaries are weaving captivating narratives that delve into the unexplored experiences and rich culture of various UK regions, thereby connecting diverse voices in a profound way.

The question arises: How can we establish strong alliances and partnerships with our regional creatives, and what valuable insights can we gain from one another? Let us embark on a journey to explore and discover specific solutions and tips that will enable us to collaborate effectively and further enhance the impact of this movement. By fostering an environment of mutual learning and support, we can elevate and celebrate the unique stories and perspectives that emerge from the regions across the UK.

Through this collective effort, we can undoubtedly achieve a more inclusive and representative portrayal of our society and culture in are regions. Together, we can create a  landscape that truly embraces the richness of our regional identities and amplifies the voices that have been waiting to be heard.

The conversation

An all-day event that will include mentoring, workshops, keynote speakers and will conclude with the screening of short films.

11.00am - 17.45pm session
19.30pm - 10pm session

This gathering will provide the much-needed opportunity for attendees to network with like-minded filmmakers and creatives. The event targets students through to career professionals, anyone who is committed to taking part in the conversation on B.A.M.E participation and representation in the film industry. The desire is for the event to be the first of many in Bristol’s cultural calendar. Bristol does not have many or enough B.A.M.E film nights / events; we are shaping this to be a regular event for Bristol.

To increase diversity, we need to look at different models for engaging, targeting and coaching BAMEs in how to get into the film and TV industry; at varying levels and across various roles.

The Conversation is an event that bridges the gap. It opens up access to seasoned professionals who will be able to share experience, advice and guidance on operating in the film industry. The event will fill the void that exists currently by providing a window into what can be perceived as an exclusive industry.
